Matt 7:24-27 (NKJV)

Build on the Rock

24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

My family and I would like to greet the WIN Al Ain Homebuilders Ministry a happy 8th anniversary. Congratulations to Bro. Melvin and the core leaders under his leadership for successfully building this ministry to greater heights of service to the church community. May the Lord indeed be the builder of our homes through them so that our labor be not in vain.

According to Apostle Paul, we should be as wise master builders, taking heed how we build our homes.

1 Cor 3:10 (NKJV)

According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.

We first start on a firm foundation. Of course we begin building with Jesus as that foundation.

1 Cor 3:11 (NKJV)

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Many have claimed to have built their lives with Jesus as their foundation but still end up failing. Jesus told us to do according to His word:

Matt 7:24 (NKJV)

24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:

There are at least three major parts of a house: 1. The foundation. 2. The Walls 3. The Roof.

1) A good solid foundation will protect us from the floods that could carry us away in times of trials.

Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV)

When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

Obedience to the WORD of God is our standard against the flood of the enemy. Memorizing scripture will not protect us from the enemy; it is our obedience to His word.

James 1:21-22 (NKJV)

…and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

The WORD of God is able to save our souls only if we are doers and not just hearers only. Deception comes if we do not act upon His commands in our lives especially our marriage vows before God. Adultery, infidelity, immorality, etc. naturally comes when we disobey the law of God. We know this, but we deceive ourselves by just hearing and not doing.

2) The walls protect us from the winds of double mindedness and instability

James 1:6-8 (NKJV)

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Not only should we just blindly follow the WORD, it should be done with Faith. Faith without works is dead (James 2:17, 20, 26). It is equally true that works with faith is just as dead (Heb 11:6)

Heb 4:2 (NKJV)

For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

Having faith and trust in the promises of God will protect our homes, family and marriage from the damages done by the winds of change and uncertainty. We will stand strong and will receive God’s provision.

3) The roof protects us from the rain of judgment. Normally the Bible depicts rain as a sign of blessing. There are 3 instances in scripture that uses rain as a sign of judgment: 1) Noah and the great flood brought about by rain because of man’s iniquity. 2) Israel’s sin when they chose a human king over God and 3) oppressing the poor that brings lack.

Gen 7:4 (NKJV)

"For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made."

1 Sam 12:17 (NKJV)

"Is today not the wheat harvest? I will call to the LORD, and He will send thunder and rain, that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking a king for yourselves."

Prov 28:3 (NKJV)

A poor man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain (Rain propelled by a driving wind) which leaves no food.

Sin can be defined as not following the ways of the Lord. As home builders, let us take heed in following the WORD of God through faithful obedience to His ways. Let the Holy Spirit guide us as we commit our families, homes and ministry to His wise guidance and counsel. If we fail to rely on Him for wisdom, we are just building our homes on sinking sand and our labor will be in vain.

Psalms 127:1a (NKJV) Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…

May the Lord build our lives through our obedience to His Word.

From our family to yours,

Ps Edward, Sis. Marlene, David John & Sally Joy
